Yesterday, our pre-Kindergarten students joined the rest of the student body at our Thursday School Mass for the very first time. Clinging tight to the hands of their 7th Grade “Buddies,” our littlest students tiptoed into the church and took their places in the right hand pews. After many practices of walking to the church, sitting quietly, kneeling, and rehearsing Mass responses, our EC4 students were more than ready to make their school Mass debut. Our wonderful Señora Fonseca has been buzzing around our school spreading her love of the Spanish language and culture. From VPK to 8th grade, students learn vocabulary, conversational language skills, Latin American history, prayers, culture, and more. Sra Fonseca works with our classroom teachers to bring in content from other subject areas into her Spanish lessons. Students in our VPK class are currently learning about the fall season, and continued this conversation into their Spanish lessons. The results are in! OLL’s VPK students received the highest possible scores! Every year the students graduating from the VPK program are tested upon entrance into Kindergarten. There are over 50 skills that must be observed and evaluated. The testing is done partially at OLL and partially off site at a public school. The test is anonymously scored by the VPK evaluation team. The highest possible score a school and its students can receive is 200 points. This year’s class had a perfect score of 200!
