From Spooky Skeletons to Spectacular Saints

On Wednesday morning, our school was invaded by what appeared to be an army of princesses and superheroes.  Not the traditional ghouls and goblins, but many fairies, wizards, soldiers and officers trotted through the halls with gleeful grins.  It was Halloween Day at Our Lady of Lourdes!  Our students in EC4 and Kindergarten embarked on their tradition of parading across the entire parish campus.  The crew gathered their parents and tote bags and set off on a mission of collecting sweets and treats.  They began in the School Office, then weaved their way through the classroom buildings where smiling students More...

During the month of December, the radio is filled with songs about St Nicholas.  From the Beach Boys to Holly Jolly Christmas, everyone seems to be talking about him! In our faith, we remember St Nicholas as a third century bishop who was known for his extreme generosity.  In the Gospels, Jesus tells a rich man to sell all of his belongings and fully devote himself to the mission of God.  St. Nicholas took this command seriously and lived his life with generosity, always giving to the poor. Celebrating All Saints Earlier this month, we celebrated the feast of All Saints Day, a holy day of obligation that honors all saints canonized in the Catholic Church. At Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, we used this opportunity to delve into this rich element of our Church’s history and discover new things about these important people who went before us in our faith.
