Yesterday, Valentines Day took Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School by storm! Flowers, chocolates, balloons, and candy hearts filled the desks and classrooms of students and teachers alike as we shared the gift of our love for one another. Each class celebrated in their own way, sharing acts of kindness and tokens of affection amongst themselves and with others in our community. In Kindergarten, students learned about the mail system in our country and wrote friendly letters to one another. During the month of December, the radio is filled with songs about St Nicholas. From the Beach Boys to Holly Jolly Christmas, everyone seems to be talking about him! In our faith, we remember St Nicholas as a third century bishop who was known for his extreme generosity. In the Gospels, Jesus tells a rich man to sell all of his belongings and fully devote himself to the mission of God. Yesterday, our school was filled with all sorts of fun faces. Silly, scary, pretty and petite, our students from EC4 to grade 3 dressed in their Halloween best and enjoyed festivities all morning. Here is a brief recap of the day’s excitement. The results are in! OLL’s VPK students received the highest possible scores! Every year the students graduating from the VPK program are tested upon entrance into Kindergarten. There are over 50 skills that must be observed and evaluated. The testing is done partially at OLL and partially off site at a public school. The test is anonymously scored by the VPK evaluation team. The highest possible score a school and its students can receive is 200 points. This year’s class had a perfect score of 200!
