We are at a time in our Nation’s history where many have made a sustained effort to separate God and nationalism. We hear of schools where students no longer learn the Pledge of Allegiance, with leaders concerned that hearing we are “one nation under God” may offend some. People debate the appropriateness of the phrase, “In God We Trust” on our currency, and folks think twice before singing “God Bless America” before sporting events.
