We are Catholic!

In this modern era of education, we hear a lot of talk about charters, philosophies, specialties and magnets.  All of these “buzz words” depict schools of thought or themes within particular institutions or regions.  We hear of schools that specialize in the sciences, foreign languages, or the performing arts.  We hear of programs that take students back to the “fundamentals” of learning or into the future through virtual classrooms and technology.  At Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, we strive to and succeed in the incorporation of all of these components, but do not label ourselves by any of them.  More...

Habemus Papam!

Habemus Papam!  We have a pope! As the faculty of Our Lady of Lourdes broke into small groups during their quarterly in-service in the Conmy Center, Dr. Michael Murphy, the leader of the professional development workshop, rushed back into the room.  “White smoke!” he shouted, “we have a pope!”  The faculty hurried into the gym where Father Gary had set up live stream Vatican coverage on the big screen.  As this was a half-day for students, few remained on campus, but Mrs. Brochak brought all of the students in After Care over to the Conmy Center to watch the special More...

Radio Guest Stars

We’ve all had that moment – you’re driving in the car, maybe on the way to work, maybe on the way home, and you hear that familiar jingle.  Just as you start to wonder, “Is Spirit FM really playing the Macarena?” you realize it is not a 90’s dance, but rather, our very own pastor, Father Gary, coming across the airwaves!  A few weeks ago, two lucky students had the opportunity to travel to Spirit FM with “Hey, Father Gary” himself to see what life is like behind the microphone. Joseph Millheim and Adam Myerscough, both seventh grade students at More...

Spreading God’s Love on Valentines Day

Yesterday, Valentines Day took Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School by storm!  Flowers, chocolates, balloons, and candy hearts filled the desks and classrooms of students and teachers alike as we shared the gift of our love for one another.  Each class celebrated in their own way, sharing acts of kindness and tokens of affection amongst themselves and with others in our community. In Kindergarten, students learned about the mail system in our country and wrote friendly letters to one another.  They learned about Saint Valentine and his deep love for our Lord, risking his life for his love of Jesus. More...

Catholic School’s Week

Every year during the last week in January, Catholic Schools around the country observe Catholic Schools Week in celebration of our faith family.  At OLL, Catholic Schools Week serves as a sort of Spirit Week with special activities each day.  We hope you will join with us our celebration! Monday January 28: Buddy Day and Picnic! Buddy Day will include a special Open Air Lunch and Walk-a-Thon to benefit the Kimberly Home.  Students are welcome to bring a blanket and a bag lunch from home, or purchase a picnic lunch from Chef Tulio.  We will sit outside with our buddies and More...

Our Advent Prayer

As we journey through this Advent season, we prepare ourselves and wait, once again, for Christ to be born in our hearts.  We don our Advent wreaths with new candles sparkling pink and purple among the evergreen and place our Nativity scenes back on their traditional place of honor on the mantle to remind ourselves of the one we truly wait for – the infant King to save the world.  Often in our society, we lose sight of Advent in our preparation for the Christmas season.  The students, faculty, and staff at Our Lady of Lourdes are taking special strides More...

Thankful

It always seems that, this time of year, our society becomes more intentionally Christian.  There is something about the weather cooling down and the leaves changing colors that awakens a heightened gratitude in our hearts.  We begin to slow down, if just for a moment at a time, and become more attuned to the immense blessings in our lives.  On Thursday afternoon, our OLL community gathered together to do just that. Generations of Our Lady of Lourdes community members came together in the Conmy Center to break bread and join together in a spirit of Thanksgiving.  With over one hundred More...

From Spooky Skeletons to Spectacular Saints

On Wednesday morning, our school was invaded by what appeared to be an army of princesses and superheroes.  Not the traditional ghouls and goblins, but many fairies, wizards, soldiers and officers trotted through the halls with gleeful grins.  It was Halloween Day at Our Lady of Lourdes!  Our students in EC4 and Kindergarten embarked on their tradition of parading across the entire parish campus.  The crew gathered their parents and tote bags and set off on a mission of collecting sweets and treats.  They began in the School Office, then weaved their way through the classroom buildings where smiling students More...

With Grateful Hearts

All 231 students of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School gathered together in the cafeteria this morning, anxiously awaiting the arrival of our special guest.  Msgr. DuBois, the founding Pastor and Principal of Our Lady of Lourdes, had just entered the school for a special jubilee visit.  He entered the cafeteria with a smile so jolly, he literally lit up the entire room.  Father Gary introduced our 89-year-old founder, providing a short biography about the life of this wonderful man. Msgr. DuBois moved to Florida shortly after finishing seminary in Rochester, New York.  He spent time in Palm Beach before More...

Giving Drink to the Thirsty

A seventh grade student stepped up to the microphone, “Over one-half of hospital beds in the world are occupied by someone with a water- or hygeine-related illness.  So that means they are sick because they didn’t have water to drink or wash with, or because the water they did drink or wash with wasn’t clean and gave them a disease.  What do you think about that?” “Wait – what about people who have cancer?” “Water causes more people to go to the hospital than cancer.” “What about violence – when people get shot or injured?” “Water causes more people to More...
