Honoring our Veterans

We are at a time in our Nation’s history where many have made a sustained effort to separate God and nationalism.  We hear of schools where students no longer learn the Pledge of Allegiance, with leaders concerned that hearing we are “one nation under God” may offend some.  People debate the appropriateness of the phrase, “In God We Trust” on our currency, and folks think twice before singing “God Bless America” before sporting events. She’s a Grand Ol’ Flag

Our Kindergarten students are hard at work on a Social Studies unit about the symbols of our nation!  This journey began with a lesson about the Pledge of Allegiance, an important promise we make each morning to honor our country.  After reading I am Your Flag with Mrs. Walker, students learned about each of the special elements that make up of the American flag.  They then used finger paint to create their own!
