~Curriculum Weekly News~
       In Reading, we read books in our lexile levels and shared the books in reports with the class. In Math, we continued subtraction with regrouping. In Religion, we talked about how important Mary is to us.   
~Upcoming Events~
       ~Monday is the school Talent Show. The 1st graders will be performing in the time slot of 10:30-11:10. Please join us if you can – it will be in the Conmy Center.
 
       ~We will have our end of the year class party on Tuesday, June 2 at 1:30. All are welcome to join us for a WATER celebration!
 
       ~Wednesday, June 3 is the last day of school. We have Mass at 9:00 if you would like to join us. It is a 12 NOON DISMISSAL.
 
       ~This will be the last newsletter of the year. I would like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for choosing OLL. I have had a wonderful time teaching your children. They are so loving and caring. I will miss them greatly. I told them they better stop by next year as they will be right next door! Thanks for all your help throughout the year will all the different projects/celebrations. I think we had an AWESOME year!

~Reading Tip of the Week~
       “Are we there yet?” Use the time spent in the car or bus for wordplay. Talk about how jam means something you put on toast as well as cars stuck in traffic. How many other homonyms can your child think of? When kids are highly familiar with the meaning of a word, they have less difficulty reading it.  
 
~Tips for Parents of 1st Graders~

       In Reading, we read “Owl and the Moon” and worked with long i words spelled I, y, igh and talked about adjectives. In Math, we are adding 2 digit numbers and rounding to the nearest 10. In Religion, we took our test on Chapter 19. In Social Studies, we talked about the 7 continents and 4 oceans. In Science, we took our test on Chapter 7. 
~Upcoming Events~
       Mass will be on Wednesday, April 8 in celebration of Holy Week.
Easter Break starts on Holy Thursday, April 9 and then school resumes on Monday, April 20.
 
~Recipe for “Puppy Chow”:
Ingredients: 1 box Crispex cereal, 16 oz. of semi sweet chocolate chips, 1 stick butter or margarine, 2 cups of powdered sugar, 1 cup of peanut butter
 
To Make:
Melt the peanut butter, chocolate chips, and butter over low heat. Pour cereal into a container. Pour the melted mix over the cereal and mix around with a spatula. Put 2 cups of powdered sugar into a brown paper grocery bag. Pour cereal/mix in bag, roll over to close and shake bag. Your delicious snack is ready to enjoy!

       Play with your child's name. Play around with the sounds in your child's name. Ask him or her to say words that begin with the same sound – like José, jugar, jabón.

~Curriculum Weekly News~
       In Reading, we read “Shrinking Mouse” and worked with long e words spelled ie, ea. In Math, we continued working on time, money, and ordinal numbers. In Religion, we finished and took our test on Chapter 18. In Social Studies, we wrote letters to our pen pals. In Science, we continued talking about Earth’s resources. We had lots of fun making pizza in the cafeteria and learning about eating healthy!
