Advent Happenings

In order to fully enter into the season of Advent, each of our ten classes have found their own unique ways to welcome Christ into their hearts.  From art projects to service projects, the students of Our Lady of Lourdes are actively participating in the deepening of their faith.  Due to our vacation schedule, we will begin our celebration of the Christmas season this coming Monday, and our students will tell you that they are certainly prepared to celebrate the birth of the King!

The Kindergarten class had a special Tree Trimming party with their parents and made Advent Angels for their tree. They are working to be more like Mary this Advent Season by being more patient and kind. They are also working hard to live the special Advent words-share, care, and help. The children are using “A Good Deed of the Day Chart” at home, where they recorded all the wonderful good deeds they did during Advent and will share these when we return in January.

For Christmas, the third graders are “Advent Angels” to each other.  On the last week of school before the break, students will do a kind deed/made a card/shared a snack with another student in the class each day.  They will also travel to sing at Mease Manor with Mrs. Wong-Stark.

Students in fourth grade each student made an Advent calendar to take home and follow along with their families.  Inside the classroom, students created an Advent chain that grows every day. When they begin the school day, each student takes time to reflect and write down one good deed that they wanted to do that day. This allows students to reflect and come up with their own good deeds bringing them closer to Jesus during the Advent season.

The middle school Religion classes celebrated Christmas with all three grades learning of the story behind Advent and how Christ calls His faithful to rejoice for the coming of the Lord. Additionally, each grade is taking turns paying visits to other classes dressed as figures associated with the Nativity scene such angels or wise men, further encouraging involvement from our whole school and preparing all hearts for the birth of our Lord!
