Buddy Day & Picnic Lunch

Buddy Day, our Kick-Off to Catholic Schools Week, included a special Open Air Lunch and Walk-a-Thon to benefit the Kimberly Home.  Our whole school sat outside with our buddies and shared a great meal, then participated in our annual Walk-a-Thon with a special guest DJ from Spirit FM!  All students spent a great afternoon on the back field growing in fellowship and fun.

Radio Guest Stars

We’ve all had that moment – you’re driving in the car, maybe on the way to work, maybe on the way home, and you hear that familiar jingle.  Just as you start to wonder, “Is Spirit FM really playing the Macarena?” you realize it is not a 90’s dance, but rather, our very own pastor, Father Gary, coming across the airwaves!  A few weeks ago, two lucky students had the opportunity to travel to Spirit FM with “Hey, Father Gary” himself to see what life is like behind the microphone. Joseph Millheim and Adam Myerscough, both seventh grade students at More...

Multi-Cultural Day

During Catholic Schools Week, OLL hosted a fantastic Multi-Cultural Day!  The event began on Thursday evening with a “tour around the world” for our Open House and Wine Tasting event.  Both current and prospective families came to enjoy the evening, walking around the globe visiting classrooms and cultures. On Friday, Students participated in a day-long festival celebrating cultures from around the world.  Every class chose a country and spent several weeks learning about and working on projects based on that country.  During the morning, students also took a tour around the world by visiting each classroom, all of which had More...

Spreading God’s Love on Valentines Day

Yesterday, Valentines Day took Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School by storm!  Flowers, chocolates, balloons, and candy hearts filled the desks and classrooms of students and teachers alike as we shared the gift of our love for one another.  Each class celebrated in their own way, sharing acts of kindness and tokens of affection amongst themselves and with others in our community. In Kindergarten, students learned about the mail system in our country and wrote friendly letters to one another.  They learned about Saint Valentine and his deep love for our Lord, risking his life for his love of Jesus. Spotlight: OLL’s Home and School Association

By now, you have probably noticed the small asterisk on many of our school events here at Our Lady of Lourdes: *sponsored by HSA.  However, with 93 new students at our school this year, you may not know exactly what that means.  The Home and School Association, more commonly called the HSA, is a parent ministry of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School.  The committee, composed of parents, faculty, and administration, meets monthly to examine “friend raising” techniques and projects to make our great school even better. Long before our school year begins, the members of the HSA are hard More...

Thankful

It always seems that, this time of year, our society becomes more intentionally Christian.  There is something about the weather cooling down and the leaves changing colors that awakens a heightened gratitude in our hearts.  We begin to slow down, if just for a moment at a time, and become more attuned to the immense blessings in our lives.  On Thursday afternoon, our OLL community gathered together to do just that. Generations of Our Lady of Lourdes community members came together in the Conmy Center to break bread and join together in a spirit of Thanksgiving.  With over one hundred More...

From Spooky Skeletons to Spectacular Saints

On Wednesday morning, our school was invaded by what appeared to be an army of princesses and superheroes.  Not the traditional ghouls and goblins, but many fairies, wizards, soldiers and officers trotted through the halls with gleeful grins.  It was Halloween Day at Our Lady of Lourdes!  Our students in EC4 and Kindergarten embarked on their tradition of parading across the entire parish campus.  The crew gathered their parents and tote bags and set off on a mission of collecting sweets and treats.  They began in the School Office, then weaved their way through the classroom buildings where smiling students More...

With Grateful Hearts

All 231 students of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School gathered together in the cafeteria this morning, anxiously awaiting the arrival of our special guest.  Msgr. DuBois, the founding Pastor and Principal of Our Lady of Lourdes, had just entered the school for a special jubilee visit.  He entered the cafeteria with a smile so jolly, he literally lit up the entire room.  Father Gary introduced our 89-year-old founder, providing a short biography about the life of this wonderful man. Msgr. DuBois moved to Florida shortly after finishing seminary in Rochester, New York.  He spent time in Palm Beach before More...

A Year of Mercy

“Teacher, what is the greatest commandment of the law?” He said to him, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.” -Matthew 22:36-40 To love the Lord with all your heart, soul, and mind – that is the message we as Catholics not only strive to live, but strive to instill in our children.  As we know, children learn best by example. Back to School – Recap!

When the doors opened at 6:15, parents were already lined up outside the Conmy Center to sign in for this year’s Back to School Night.  Teachers cheerfully served as registrars, distributing information and gifts to every school family.  Representatives from Fall Festival and Saints & Sinners staffed information tables, assisting parents in becoming further involved with our major school fundraisers.  Inside the gym, our extra curricular organizations displayed information about enrichment opportunities from our students, including technology, dance, musical theatre, and athletics, recruiting both participants and coaches for various programs. Father Gary began the presentation with a prayer and blessing. More...
