Blessings

The start of this new school year brought with it a multitude of blessings.  New faces and new friends grace our halls and our classrooms and remind us of what a sacred place Our Lady of Lourdes School is.  We tend to be more aware of these blessings on special days or events, such as the first day of school or our birthdays.  But our second grade class is making an effort to recognize their blessings daily and give thanks to God for all He has given and continues to give us. In Religion class, the students brainstormed the various More...

Zooming In

Our seventh grade scientists are under investigation.  Mrs. Hooey started the year with an introduction to microscopes and different apparatuses used in scientific technology.  After a thorough exploration of the parts of a microscope and how each aspect contributes to magnification, students worked with lab partners to create their own wet mount slides.  The experiment, which involved microscopic investigation of a newspaper clip, aided students in seeing the various strengths of the three lenses. Over the course of the year, middle school students will  perform experiments using a variety of apparatuses in conjunction with classroom computers, SMART board, and iPads More...

Lights, Camera, Action!

On Friday, our third grade class was bursting with movie stars who smiled and waved as they glided down the red carpet.  Ms. Flannagan’s class put a new spin on summer reading when they created their own awards show for their favorite characters. Each student selected one character from their novel to receive an award of their choice.  They then created detailed masks of those characters using construction paper and paper plates.  Students each wrote an acceptance speech that their character would deliver during the ceremony.  Old favorites like Amelia Bedelia and Cam Jansen received awards like “Craziest Babysitter” and More...

A Look into the Future

A lot changes during the 180 days of fifth grade. And not just braces, haircuts, and shoe sizes – students develop a broader understanding of their world, discover new interests and passions, and come into a more intimate relationship with our Lord. Mrs. Casalino found an creative way to capture her students as they are today and keep that notion preserved until the last day of school. Fifth grade students created a time capsule this week in which each student will keep a written record of who they are today. Students are convinced things like their favorite song and singer More...

This week in Art, Ms. Portilia initiated a school-wide project in which all students, EC4-8th grade will participate. The theme for this project is “We are All God’s Children,” and the piece will exhibit the unique gifts and talents of each student at our school. Readiness Scores Are In!

The results are in! OLL’s VPK students received the highest possible scores! Every year the students graduating from the VPK program are tested upon entrance into Kindergarten. There are over 50 skills that must be observed and evaluated. The testing is done partially at OLL and partially off site at a public school. The test is anonymously scored by the VPK evaluation team. The highest possible score a school and its students can receive is 200 points.  This year’s class had a perfect score of 200! This is a huge accomplishment and seldom achieved by any school. We are so proud More...
